His wife Kitihawa was Potawatomi. He respected the knowledge and culture of the Indigenous People. The plaza where DuSable is on display is called Pilgrim’s Court. In my opinion, DuSable should not be in the same category as explorers. discoverers. pilgrims, or missionaries. DuSable did not intend to claim and conquer, but to learn and to join the Indigenous community. I think they are beautiful and who can resist those big gorgeous eyes. At a Wisconsin State Fair, all I wanted to do was find the 4-H barns to admire the prize winning cows. Her book, “the good good pig,” (2006) is about “the extraordinary life of Christopher Hogwood,” who Sy adopted as a baby. Christopher was a runt born into a large litter. He would have lost the fight for his mother’s milk and died. The farmer took pity on Christopher and brought him in a shoebox to his friends Howard and Sy Montgomery to raise. Sy and Christopher became very good friends; they took care of each other. This was Christopher’s forever home. Each night after the game, I had so much adrenaline that it took hours to fall asleep. I had little experience playing a team sport. I have wondered what kind of player I could have been if I had started playing at a younger age. Like my niece, Ruth, who played basketball for the H.H.S. 25 years later; her team won two consecutive state championships in 1995 and 1996. She was a gifted player. Like my friend Jenny who was recruited to play basketball for the Fighting Irish at Notre Dame (1980 - 1984). She was another gifted player.
